NEWS FLASH!!

Gippsland Storm Elite Netball Development Club and Monash University Centrals combine to form first Superclub!

Gippsland Storm and Monash Centrals (VNL) are excited to announce their new partnership.  This will see Gippsland Storm now being the logical smooth pathway to the VNL for all the Gippsland regions aspiring netballers.

Details are to be finalised, however the plan includes

  •  Monash Centrals to change their name to Monash Storm
  • 3 VNL home games to be played in our region in 2014
  • Monash to wear Storm colours at these home games
  • Monash Storm to hold one of their tryouts for 2014 season at Pakenham (Sept 2013)

This is an exciting time for netball in Gippsland.  Shane O' Sullivan (President of Monash Centrals and Net Vic board member) said at the announcement " If we can make it a superclub, the envy of every VNL club and every netball association in Victoria it would be fantastic and from Monash's part we will be working to make that happen."

Gippsland Storm expects that the upcoming try outs for the 2014 season will be HUGE!

Any netballer who is currently in our region and who is serious about developing their skills will be in attendance.

Tryouts will be open to all in the first two weeks

Sunday 20th October 2013

and Sunday 27th October 2013

Times for each age group will be announced soon

Storm take all before them at TID tournament

Gippsland Storm Under 15/1's and a combined Under 17's side both came away from the Southern Saints TID tournament on the weekend with tremendous wins in their respective sections.

The event is a invitation only tournament with 8 associations presenting teams from under 15's and under 17's.  The result is a testament to our program and one which the club is very proud of.

Our under 15's won all but one game for the day and all represented us well and did their best to impress the selectors.  The 17's went through the day undefeated and beat Richmond in the Grand Final by 3.

Like last year we expect to be well represented when the selectors make their decisions on who they would like to attend special training days with an eye to making the Southern Saints squads.

Well done to all players and coaches on a very successful day for our club.  Keep an eye on the website and we will put up the names of all girls who make the next stage once we are informed of who they are.

Camp Wrap

Going back to school (and work!) was made even more difficult for the players and coaches of Gippsland Storm after the completion of the annual pre season camp.  Many reported being very tired and sore on Monday morning after the gruelling fitness and team building components were completed.

This years event was held at Portsea Camp.  The facilities, food, accommodation and weather were great.  The club was thrilled with the outcomes and is extremely confident that the players have been well prepared for the 2013 seasons with increased self belief and confidence in their team-mates.  This important event is just one aspect that sets Gippsland Storm apart from its competitors.

The players all completed a high ropes course, many strength, conditioning and endurance activities as well as trust exercises and of course the early morning runs!

Head Coach Simon O'Shanessy complimented all players in his assessment of the weekend"In all my years at the club I have not seen a more committed group of players"  "All players completed all aspects without complaint - giving their all for the benefit of their team"

This should sound a warning bell for all Gippsland Storms competitors - Look out The Storm are ready for 2013.

2013 Try-outs completed

Thanks to all who attended the annual Gippsland Storm try - outs

Once again the Storm try-outs attracted huge numbers over the three scheduled weeks.  The quality of the players who attended was extremely high - perhaps the best we have seen in recent years. It is a very difficult process to select the players to represent our great club in 2013.  Unfortunately we can not take everyone!

A big thank you to the committee, selectors, coaches and players for all the time and effort it takes to run these day's as successfully as we have.

Now the hardest part begins - narrowing down the hope fulls into what the coaches and selectors feel will be the best combinations for the next year. The process from here is that all players will be notified by email.  As for those that were not selected in the initial intake all is not lost.  Storm will be putting players on a "wait list" which means that should an opportunity arise due to a selected player being unable to take the offered position more places will be offered to those on this list.  Every year players get a call up from this list - so don't loose hope!  Some very talented players will likely miss out, and for this we are sorry - there are only so many places to fill!  For those that don't make it to the teams we would encourage you to keep up the hard work and try again in the future.

For the successful players - Congratulations and we look forward to seeing you again very soon.
